The Paris Opera Junior Ballet is a very recently founded company. In early summer 2024, the General Director of the Paris Opera, Alexander Neef, announced: »The creation of the Junior Ballet reflects the Paris Opera’s desire to be constantly evolving, offering innovative forms of creation, training and transmission, while preserving the institution's centuries-old heritage.«
The Junior Ballet of the Opéra national de Paris is conceived as an incubator for young talent and is intended to meet a number of challenges: diversifying the dancers' profiles and encouraging their professional integration. The new company also strengthens the Paris Opera's openness to the public through tours and mediation activities.
Composed of 18 dancers, the Junior Ballet only started work in September 2024. After an intensive training phase, the young company begins touring in May 2025.
Under the direction of José Martinez, Director of Dance at the Paris Opera, the Junior Ballet will be supported by a dedicated artistic, teaching and administrative team. The company’s repertoire is primarily classical. In Bonn, the following programme will be presented:
