Inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s timeless tale, the ballet *The Little Prince* invites audiences on a poetic journey that touches children and adults alike. The choreography translates the famous story of friendship, love, and the search for what truly matters in life into a visually striking dance language, creating a fantasy universe that opens both the eyes and the heart.
At the heart of the story is the pilot, whose plane crashes in the desert. In the solitude of the sand, he encounters a mysterious young prince. Together, they embark on a journey through space and time—a journey that leads the pilot on a voyage as mysterious as it is dangerous, and ultimately, to himself.
In clearly structured acts, a story ballet unfolds, rich in symbolism: from the proud rose to the clever fox to the strange narcissus. The snake is ever-present as a shadowy, enigmatic figure. It symbolizes the approaching death that silently winds its way through the play.
The young ensemble of the NRW Junior Ballet brings this fantastic world to life. The result is a total work of art that lovingly captures the poetic simplicity of the original.
THE LITTLE PRINCE is a ballet for the whole family that preserves the magic of the story while opening up new, imaginative perspectives—an invitation to look at the stars once again through the eyes of a child.
Founded in 2014, the NRW Junior Ballet is a highly talented company for young dancers sponsored by Theater Dortmund. Twelve top international talents gain two years of practical stage experience here before moving on to professional main ensembles. The two-year program is aimed at exceptionally well-trained graduates of dance academies worldwide. The goal is to establish a bridge between professional training and a long-term stage career. Former members have often gone on to join leading international companies after completing the program.
