On a cold winter’s night, the poet Rodolfo meets the seamstress Mimì, and from this chance encounter a tender love story unfolds. The painter Marcello and his former lover Musetta also find their way back to one another, forming a counterpoint to Mimì and Rodolfo with their relationship marked by attraction and jealousy. But soon the happiness of both couples is put to the test by the reality of poverty and Mimì’s illness...
Based on Henri Murger’s novel Scènes de la vie de Bohème, Puccini created an opera that became an international success immediately after its world premiere in 1896. Through enchanting, wistful melodies, it tells the story of the life, love and despair of a young generation of artists.
Following the acclaimed production of Verdi’s OTELLO, the renown Italian director Leo Muscato returns to Theater Bonn for Giacomo Puccini’s LA BOHÈME.
