Astor Piazzolla, the most important and internationally best-known exponent of tango nuevo, in 1968 composed together with Uruguayan poet Horacio Ferrer for Argentinian radio the world’s first Tango Opera.

After Gidon Kremer’s successful European tour in an arrangement of the piece made expressly for him, and after the wide acclaim that his CD recording of the piece received, and after the general praise that Milva obtained with her version with the ensemble Tango Seis (and its Duende, Daniel Bonilla Torres, who in Bonn also will be in the cast), MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES will be performed as part of the Bonner series of works that fall into the category of  »popular modernity«.
